Fill A Local Teachers Wish List!

Ahh the smell of freshly sharpened pencils, crisp paper notebooks, and…the sound of our kids grumbling through the alarm clock. Or is that just me? What I mean to say is, summer has been great – but hallelujah the kids are back in school and life is returning back to normal after the wonderful chaos of summer.

This year we have a 3rd grade and a freshman, where does the time go?! And the one thing I have noticed about our school systems is the influx of new students and teachers. We live in an area that is constantly growing and the school systems need our support now more than ever! So I reached out to the teachers in my local neighborhood and asked if we could help fill their wishlist!

More than 90% of teachers spend their own money on school supplies, according to the National Education Association, the largest teachers union in the country. Before the pandemic, teachers spent an average of $500 out of pocket per year. The union estimated that number would jump past $800 for the 2023-24 school year.

Mrs. Dycus

My name is Johnni Dycus and I am new to the Yulee community. My husband’s job in the navy brought us here this summer. I have been in education for 13 years in Louisiana where I was born and raised. I will teach 5th grade at Wildlight Elementary School and I can’t wait to give back to the community the best way I know how.

PS Mr. Skye is looking for local businesses or individuals who want to sponsor our Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter at Yulee Middle School.
“This is our first year and I am excited to be the advisor. We are hoping to get a head start on fundraising. FBLA is a non-profit organization and after school club where students learn and practice business and success skills, attend competitive events, and engage in community service.”
